MANGALORE: Vishwa Konkani Student Scholarship Fund, set up by World Konkani Centre, Mangalore will award scholarship worth Rs 2 crore to over 1,300 students from economically backward families of Konkani communities studying in various academic disciplines here on August 25. The scholarship award ceremony will be held here on August 25 where Oscar Fernandes, MP will distribute scholarships to 480 engineering/MBBS students. The fund envisages grant of scholarship to economically backward students having Konkani as their mother tongue. Instituted in 2010 as envisioned by TV Mohandas Pai, corporate leader as a stream concept, VKSSF raised and distributed Rs 50 lakh to 162 students in 2010 and Rs 1 crore to 547 students in 2011. VKSSF has evolved in to a large scholarship programme with over 1300 beneficiaries and Rs 2 crore worth of scholarships in 2012.
