MANNY PANGILINAN OFW SUCCESS STORY! (courtesy of AIM GLOBAL Philippines) Two weeks ago, i watch NBA All-Stars Kobe Bryant, Derrick Rose, Kevin Durant, Chris Paul, “Rookie of the Year” Tyreke Evans, James Harden, Derek Fisher, Derrick Williams, and Javale McGee had electrifying games against the PBA All-Stars and Smart Gilas. The crowd went gaga over slam dunks, intense basketball and shoe throwing by the NBA stars. This is definitely one of the biggest sporting events in the Philippine’s recent history at the Smart Araneta Coliseum. :) Behind all the glitz of the event, one cannot help but wonder – who is behind all this? The PBA Commissioner? PNOY? Manny Pacquiao? Manny, yes. But another Manny – one of the biggest entrepreneurs in the Philippines, Manny Pangilinan. Who happens to be a former OFW. His rise the top story is really inspiring, the Pangilinan family always rising above the ranks. His grandfather started as a public school teacher in Pampanga and Tarlac, rising through the ranks to become superintendent of public schools and, eventually, secretary of education. His dad began his career as a messenger at Philippine National Bank, and retired as president of Traders Royal Bank, one of the larger banks in the ’80s. :) Manny studied as a scholar at San Beda and Ateneo, taking jeepneys and busses and sometimes walking home when he no longer had money. After college, he joined a national competition of Procter & Gamble and got his scholarship at the University of Pennsylvania’s Wharton School. Young as he was, he was already wa-is. :) After college, he worked for 6 years in a local company, then decided to be an Overseas Filipino Worker in Hong Kong. He worked so hard and smart in his companies abroad that he managed to take the business to the $5 billion mark. hoo! grabe!! (y) After 22 long years away from home, he came back. And the rest is history – PLDT, TV5, Smart, Talk N’ Text, San Beda College, Cignal Digital TV, First Pacific Tollways, and the MRT Stations. :) To our dear OFW’s in the USA and around the world, here is a man who went through what you are going through. He also had days when he was home sick, when he missed Filipino food, when the call of the homeland seemed to take him to the airport. But he thrived and came out on top. If he can do it, so can you! Who knows, maybe you too can have a coliseum or a street named after you! :) Grabeee! Just believe! -aimglobal-online
