MD Anderson is a wonderful place to go for cancer treatment. The Doctors, nurses, therapist and administrative personnel are all professional and very friendly. Most of them greet new patients with a smile and a hug. I am amazed at the number of patients that are treated there on a daily basis and yet they treat each one of us as if we are their only patient. I see so many very sick people walk through those doors daily. Today, I saw an older gentleman (my age) sitting in the waiting room. He was alone and looked very sad. I walked over and introduced myself. He said my name is Kenneth. Im from Alabama. He began telling me his story without me even asking. He needed a friend to talk with. He lost his wife to leukemia in July. His heart was broken, his life is turned upside down. Now, he just found out that he has prostate cancer. I ask him if he is a Christian. He said, oh yes. I dont think I could make it without my Lord. I said Kenneth, that is exactly the way I feel. I gave him my cell phone number and told him where Im staying. I offered to listen and pray with him anytime he wanted. I told him if he wanted someone to go eat with or do anything with to call me. I also tried to reassure him that the treatments arent bad and that he will be ok. Folks, their are thousands of Kenneths out there that just need a friend. Someone that will give of their time to just listen to them and be a friend. Praying for people is great but they need to know that you really care. Really listen to what they are saying. You never know what a person is going through unless you make yourself available and give of your time and attention. I want to thank you all from my heart for the love and support you have given me during my cancer treatments. You all took a rough road and with each card you filled in a pothole. With each encouraging word you filled in the dips. With each phone call you removed a bump. With each visit you removed the ruts and with all your prayers, you have made that road as smooth as a Heavenly highway. I love you all.
