MEDIA ADVISORY AUSTIN JUNE 23, 2013 Members of the RAZA ROUNDTABLE and other organizations will hold a candle light vigil on Wednesday June 26 at 8 PM at 2314 E.11th at Swenson Ave. to protest the recent decision made by City Council Members Mike Martinez and Cheryl Cole to place the sale of 64 Rainey Street back on the council agenda even after overwhelming protests from the Mexican-American Community. At a recent meeting at the Mexican American Cultural Center the board unanimously voted against the proposed developer’s plan which would completely surround the MACC with even more high rise development. The original intent of the MACC was to establish a public venue for the celebration of Mexican-American Culture at no expense and now has evolved into a cash producing venue with enforced paid parking from a community who can least afford it.
