MEET (officially) CHARITY & BABY GEORGIA. Charity, the Downey - TopicsExpress

MEET (officially) CHARITY & BABY GEORGIA. Charity, the Downey shelter pug mama with horrific skin condition that stole everyone’s hearts yesterday. It wasn’t easy to get her out today, before her official hold date was over, but with a determined volunteer and kind-hearted shelter officers, anything is possible. When I picked Charity and baby girl Georgia (named so after one of the kind officers) and held them in my arms I could not hold the tears back. I got her comfortable in my car and sat there for a good 10 minutes just petting her and crying. I have never seen a dog in this state before. She doesn’t even look like a pug. She is extremely skinny and malnourished, every rib showing, hip bones protruding. She weigh 11 pounds! Her skin is covered in crusts, bloody and dry puss, hardened form untreated disease and undoubtedly spending her life in some backyard out in the sun. Her skin is completely black. She was one of the saddest sights I have ever seen. But all she could do is wag her skinny hairless tail at me and look at me with hopeful eyes. GEORGIA the little puppy kept crying even though she just nursed and I looked around for something softer to cuddle her in. Serendipitously, I realized I had a baby blanket I have been meaning to return to the store for 6 months. I instantly knew why I hadn’t: it was here for Georgia. I cuddled her in it next to Charity and she slept soundly until we got to the vet. A thorough vet examination has revealed that Charity has demodex mange, a yeast and a bacterial skin infection, an ear infection, and rotten teeth. Her bloodwork is consistent with systematic malnutrition. Charity has been neglected so badly in her life that it rises to the level of abuse. She has had this condition for a long time and yet has been forced to breed repeatedly. It is despicable. We will give her high calorie nutritious food so that she can gain her strength and be able to nurse Georgia, but there is not too much we can do for the skin infections as far as medications because she is a nursing mother. She will receive a bath tomorrow which will undoubtedly provide her much needed relief. Once she is no longer nursing we will take all measures necessary to treat the mange and the resulting skin infections. I don’t think Charity is 8 years old, I think she is younger she is just THAT mistreated. As for little Georgia, she is beautiful but the worry is that she isn’t very responsive … we are worried about her growth and development. Her eyes are open which puts her at or nearly at about 14 days of age. She is very vulnerable so please keep her in your prayers and send her love and strength!! If anything happened to Georgia it would be a blow to Charity who is deeply attached to her baby, it would put her at risk. I cannot tell you what a wonderful mother Charity is; so very attentive, loving, caring, constantly checking on Georgia, cleaning her, nursing her and nuzzling her. Charity is defined as the benevolent goodwill towards someone, a generosity and helpfulness especially toward the needy or suffering … Charity is the perfect name for this amazing pug mama. She has given her life for Georgia and undoubtedly countless other puppies. And now it’s time for all of us to help her, to give her THE RIGHT life. Today has left an imprint on my heart … this is the essence of vulnerability and its’ very humbling. THANK YOU ALL FOR BEING HERE FOR THESE TWO!!! Thank you for your donations, your prayers, your love and support of our rescue. WE CANNOT DO THIS WITHOUT YOU. We will keep you updated on their progress, and as we try to find the perfect foster home for these two special angels where they can receive much needed attention, care and SO MUCH LOVE!
