MFBRP is looking for a KUPU Intern IMMEDIATELY!! Position is for 10 months; housing is provided. This is a great opportunity to further your skills in avian biology, restoration ecology, conservation science, field research techniques, habitat management & outreach education. We have a last minute opening for an Americorps Intern! Primary duties include: assisting with implementation and monitoring of experimental forest restoration on the leeward (dry) side of Haleakala, including planting native species and vegetation monitoring; predator control; seed collection for captive propagation of native forest plant species; assisting with public outreach & education; assisting with point counts for Kiwikiu and other native forest birds; and assisting staff with ongoing projects. This is a field-based position. Field duties are extremely physically challenging. Remote research requires extensive hiking in steep, high elevation terrain. Desirable qualifications include a B.S. in ecology, biology, ornithology, botany or a similar field; passerine point counts; forest restoration work; mist-netting and banding; small mammal trapping; vegetation sampling; and Wilderness First Aid Certification.
