MID-ATLANTIC UNDERGRADUATE MAUCC MAUCC CLASSICS CONFERENCE 1st Annual Mid-Atlantic Undergraduate Classics Conference—Call for Papers CALL FOR PAPERS: Undergraduate Classics Conference at W&M We are proud to announce the first annual Mid-‐Atlantic Undergraduate Classics Conference: an exclusively undergraduate research conference for any and all undergraduate research involving the history, literature, daily lives, and reception of the Ancient Greek and Roman peoples from prehistory up to and including Late Antiquity. The conference will be held Saturday, March 8, 2014 at the College of William & Mary in Williamsburg, VA. A keynote speaker and informal reception in the evening of March 7 will open the conference. Full paper submissions are requested by Friday, December 13, 2013. A panel of undergraduate peers representing a variety of schools and specialties will review the papers. Decisions will be announced by February 1, 2014. GUIDELINES FOR SUBMISSION This year, the conference features four panels: Women in Antiquity, Religion and Ritual, Intersections of East and West, and Political Systems of the Ancient World. Naturally, some papers may fit into multiple topics, in which case the committee will organize accepted submissions according to the needs of the conference. Please send submissions as e-‐mail attachments to maucc.contact@gmail. The submitter’s name and affiliated school should be listed in the body of the e-‐mail, along with the paper title, but must not appear anywhere within the text of the paper itself. Only one paper may be submitted per individual. The maximum time allotted for accepted papers is 15 minutes. Therefore, submissions should be framed in such a way as to be able to be presented within this time limit (~2000 words recommended). All participants and attendees of the conference are responsible for securing their own funding for travel and lodging expenses. A small conference fee of $25 will be charged for all attendees, to cover breakfast and lunch on Saturday. We look forward to reading your submissions as we embark on a wonderful new experience for our region. We hope that all aspiring classicists in the Mid-‐Atlantic area will benefit from this new venture as we strive together to further our understanding of the ancient world.
