MIDA ASKS FIJI TV TO AIR AN APOLOGY The Media Industry Development Authority has asked Fiji Television Limited to air an apology in relation to comments made by Verata chief, Ratu Timoci Vesikula at the Tailevu Provincial Council meeting that was aired on FijiOne news. Authority chairman Ashwin Raj said, after preliminary investigations, he found that hate speech was aired on Fiji TV. Raj said the comments of Ratu Timoci Vesikula ran gor approximately 3 minutes, and despite that a response was made by govt, Fiji TV did not air it. He said he will seek further legal advice of a possibility for imposing a fine in adherence with section 24 of Media Industry Development Decree. Raj said the Fiji Media Industry Authority recognizes that it remains governments rights to execute legal proceedings against Ratu Timoci Vesikula for inciting hatred and racial ill will.
