MISTERBLUEJEANS VIDEO COLLECTIONS PART 2 JOE COCKER John Robert Cocker OBE, known as Joe Cocker — is an English rock and blues singer, who came to popularity in the 1960s, and is known for his gritty voice, his spasmodic body movement in performance and his cover versions of popular songs, particularly those of The Beatles. His cover of The Beatles With a Little Help from My Friends reached number one in the UK in 1968, and he performed the song live at Woodstock in 1969. His 1975 hit single, You Are So Beautiful, reached number five in the US. Cocker is the recipient of several awards, including a 1983 Grammy Award for his US number one Up Where We Belong, a duet with Jennifer Warnes. In 1993 he was nominated for the Brit Award for Best British Male, and in 2007 he received an OBE at Buckingham Palace for services to music. Cocker was ranked #97 on Rolling Stones 100 greatest singers list. TERRY JACKS Terrence Ross Terry Jacks from Winnipeg, Manitoba is a Canadian singer, songwriter, record producer and environmentalist, best known for his 1974 hit song Seasons in the Sun. The song Seasons in the Sun, released in late 1973 on his own record label, Goldfish Records, became the largest-selling international single by a Canadian artist at that time, eventually selling 14 million copies worldwide. It earned Jacks two Juno Awards and became one of the biggest selling Canadian Singles of all time. The song was based on Rod McKuens 1965 adaptation of Le moribond, originally by Belgian singer Jacques Brel from 1962. For his version, Jacks made some modifications to the lyrics. In the United States,#2 in Great Britain #3 and in Germany, #4 it was released on Bell Records, and the song went to #1 on the charts. JOE SOUTH Joe South American singer-songwriter and guitarist. Best known for his songwriting, South won the Grammy Award for Song of the Year in 1970 for Games People Play and was again nominated for the award in 1972 for Rose Garden. Joe South started his pop career in July 1958 with the NRC Records novelty hit The Purple People Eater Meets the Witch Doctor. In 1959, South wrote two songs which were recorded by Gene Vincent: I Might Have Known, (Capitol Records, 1959) and Gone Gone Gone on the album The Crazy Beat of Gene Vincent (Capitol Records, 1963).
