MOI UNIVERSITY TO TRAIN LEADERS FOR AFRICAS FUTURE By Francis Omondi Moi University has won a bid to be the ultimate centre for training leaders about educational research and management in East and Southern Africa. The Centre for Excellence in Educational Research Methods and Management in East and Southern Africa (CERM-ESA) will enable the next generation of leaders to acquire training in line with international standards. The project is funded by the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) with the support of the German Federal Foreign Office. University of Oldenburg in Germany, Nelson Mandela Metropolitan University in South Africa, University of Dar-es Salaam in Tanzania and Uganda Management Institute in Uganda have partnered with Moi University in achieving the Centre of Excellence’s goals. The project focuses on coming up with solution oriented and innovative educational research at high school and university level. It will also lead to the development of an international study program that will provide scholarships for Master’s and PhD students and a staff development program for university academics and administrators in partner universities. The information which is published in the University website acknowledges Moi’s fortune not limited to the high quality of proposal it presented, but also because of the excellent quality of the partners the varsity has. The Centre will be hosted by Moi University School of Education and a budget of 1.3 million Euros (Kshs. 153 million) has been prepared which will run the project for four-and-a half years of its first phase.
