MOJAVE DESERT LAND TRUST LAUNCHES SEASON VII OF THE LAND STEWARDSHIP PROGRAM! Please join us on Saturday, September 28th from 9:00 am to 3:00 pm for Land Stewardship Training at Whitewater Preserve in White Water, CA This once-a-year event is a wonderful opportunity to learn valuable skills as a Volunteer Monitor. Lands purchased by the Land Trust must be permanently monitored to ensure that it remains undisturbed, even after it is donated to the National Park Service. Monitoring property is one of the fundamental activities a land trust or natural resource management agency can perform. A specialty training and refresher course for volunteers will be provided by our field professionals. Volunteer Monitor Training will include: Locating properties in the field using a GPS unit and topographic maps. Monitoring properties and maintaining a written and photo log. Document threats such as illegal use of off-highway vehicles and dumping. Field safety awareness course. Refresher GPS course for veteran Volunteer Monitors. Volunteer Prerequisites: Able to hike an average of three miles off trail on moderate desert terrain. Be comfortable navigating to remote desert properties with a GPS unit, road map, and topographic map. PRE-REGISTRATION IS REQUIRED! The facility has limited seats and fills up quickly, so please contact us as soon as possible to reserve your seat. If you are interested or have any questions, please contact MDLT Land Stewardship Coordinator, Mizuki Hanford at mizuki@sheltondouthit or 760-366-0542. © 2013 MicrosoftTermsPrivacyDevelopersEnglish (United States) © 2013 MicrosoftTermsPrivacyDevelopersEnglish (United States)
