The first is most important because it provides a key for understanding the other seven. V7 – 11 the angel of the LORD (v11) is a Christophany – a reincarnate appearance of the second person of the trinity, the Son of God. V18 -21 the four horns are representative of the four Gentile world powers earlier introduced by Daniel (Dan. 2: 7, 8) metaphorically, the horn was applied to the strength of governments and was used representatively of nations (Dan. 8: 3, 4, Mic. 4: 13). CHAPTER 2 V1 -13 speaks about the man with the measuring line. Its message is that the future Jerusalem will overspread its boundaries and that God will be its protector. CHAPTER 3 V1 – 10 speaks about Joshua vindicated. Note ( v1) Ezra 5: 2, Hag. 1: 1, Zech. 6: 11, 1 Chr. 21: 1, Job 1: 6, Ps. 109: 6, Rev. 12: 9, 10, (v2) Mark. 9: 25, Judges 9: Rom. 8: 33, Amos 4: 1, (v3) Ezra 9: 15, Is. 64: 6, (v4) Gen. 3: 21, IS. 61: 10, (V5) Ex. 29: 6, (v7) Lev. 8: 33, Deut. 17: 9 – 12, Zech. 4: 4, (v8) Ps. 71: 7, Is. 42: 1, Is. 11: 1, 53: 2, (v9) Zech. 4: 10, Ps. 118: 22, Jer. 31`: 34, 50: 20, (v10) Zech. 2: 11, Is. 36: 16, v1 – 10 the fourth vision is of Joshua the high priest standing before the angel of the Lord. For the Israel of Zechariah’s day, the significance of the vision is that SIN IS NOT A HINDRANCE TO THE REALIZATION OF God’s program because God has dealt with sin. Joshua and the priests indicate the restoration of the priesthood and stand representatively for the work that God will accomplish ultimately when the sin of the nations is permanently put away by the (BRANCH) the coming Messiah (Jesus) v5 – the fair mitre was the high priests turban to which a golden plate was attached engraved with -Holiness to the LORD” (Ex. 28: 36- 38) v6 – 8 “THE BRANCH “ (Hebrew – Isemach, a sprout ) is a proper name descriptive of the Messiah. The branch is used in prophecy (6: 12, Is. 4: 2, 11: 1, Jer. 23: 5, 33: 15, ) to indicate that genealogically, He is a descendant of David, and He is the fulfillment of the Davidic covenant (2 Sam. 7: 8 -14) “ My servant “ (Hebrew e bed, “doer” tiller, ) sets forth His function (Is. 42:1, 49: 3, 50: 10, 52: 13, 53: 11, Ezek. 34: 23, 24, v9 – the stone (Hebrew `eben) is frequently used throughout the Old Testament to refer to the Messiah (Gen. 49: 24, Ps. 118: 22, Is. 28: 16) and is so interpreted in the New Testament (Matt. 21: 42, Acts 4: 11, 1 Pet. 2: 6).
