MORNING VERSES: Hosea 6:3 KJV Then shall we know, if we follow on to know the LORD: his going forth is prepared as the morning; and he shall come unto us as the rain, as the latter and former rain unto the earth. ROLAND KLINE Ephesians 4:2 KJV With all lowliness and meekness, with longsuffering, forbearing one another in love; EVENING VERSES: 2 Corinthians 12:9 KJV And he said unto me, My grace is sufficient for thee: for my strength is made perfect in weakness. Most gladly therefore will I rather glory in my infirmities, that the power of Christ may rest upon me. INSIGHT: When I pray, I often catch myself simply wanting God to do what I want, not necessarily what is best or most expedient for those around me or for the good of the Kingdom. I dont like to hear that God told Paul that he had asked enough about deliverance from his problem. Instead, Paul needed to learn that Gods gracious strength and mercy were enough to sustain him even in trial. While I know I need to learn this same lesson, it is daunting. I want God to keep things nice and tidy for me. But then I remember I am a follower of Christ. If I am to become like my Savior, then I have to let go of my requirements on Gods answers and open up to Gods work to redeem others through me, no matter the personal cost. Only then can I truly know that his grace is sufficient for me! PRAYER: Patient and loving Shepherd, guard my heart from discouragement in tough times and guard it from arrogance in good times. I know that without you I have nothing that is permanent. Thanks for giving me a permanent, steadfast hope of heaven with you, because of your grace and strength shared with me. In the name of Jesus I pray. Amen. ROLAND KLINE Psalm 1:1 KJV Blessed is the man that walketh not in the counsel of the ungodly, nor standeth in the way of sinners, nor sitteth in the seat of the scornful. Insight This psalm begins extolling the joys of obeying God and refusing to listen to those who discredit or ridicule him. Our friends and associates can have a profound influence on us, often in very subtle ways. If we insist on friendships with those who mock what God considers important, we might sin by becoming indifferent to Gods will. This attitude is the same as mocking. Challenge Do your friends build up your faith, or do they tear it down? True friends should help you to draw closer to God, not hinder your relationship with him.
