MORUYA HISTORY - Did you know We all know Australia Post, but did you know it got its name from the POST that was located in a prominent position in every town. The post was where people left their mail (normally in water proof sachet) to be picked up by the Cobb & Co coach or whoever had the contract. The origional MORUYA POST is still in location in front of the Vulcan Cafe right hand side at bottom of the steps. It has just about had it! The post is as all posts do after god knows how many years, its rotten and just about to fall over... but at the moment it is still there, even the nail that held the sachet can still be seen in the top of post. The location was initially the Towns Bank (Bank of NSW) which would be a natural location for the POST to be located. What to do, go into the cafe order a coffee and maybe lunch, sit near one of the 2 front windows and imagine the Cobb & Co coach pulling up outside, dropping passengers and picking up the mail the road would have been dirt etc etc Question, should we talk to the owners and replace the post and put a story plaque on it, maybe use some of the old post on top on top of a new one. I know the Beashels would find a piece of iron bark approx 12 x 12 2 or 3ft high to do the job. let me know your thoughts?
