Jose Mourinho accuses referee Phil Dowd of being TOO FAT in fresh rant at officials The amazing outburst came after Chelseas defeat to Tottenham on New Years Day, with the Portuguese already facing an FA misconduct charge Jose Mourinho launched an astonishing rant at Phil Dowd and shouted: “Youre too fat to referee.” Witnesses to the amazing rant in the tunnel at Tottenham claim Mourinho “lost the plot” as he shouted furiously at Premier League referee Dowd after Chelsea’s defeat on New Year’s Day. Mourinho has since been charged with misconduct by the Football Association for claiming there is a “campaign” against Chelsea following a draw at Southampton three days earlier. But his rant at Dowd saw him question the referee’s weight, as he shouted: “You’re too fat to referee, you should retire” and then added: “You’ve cost us.” It is understood that Mourinho later went into Dowd’s dressing room and the pair must have made peace because the incident was not in the referee’s official report. But Mourinho later accused Dowd of being “too slow” in his post-match media interviews as he was upset at a string of decisions. Mourinho was furious that Chelsea were not given a handball decision when they were leading 1-0 and eventually went on to lose the game 5-3. The Portuguese coach has until 6pm tonight (TUE) to respond to the FA charge relating to his post match comments at Southampton when Chelsea saw Cesc Fabregas booked for an alleged dive even though TV replays suggested it should have been a penalty. Dowd, who is 52 later this month, was reported to have failed a fitness test in May 2012. Sir Alex Ferguson also questioned Dowd’s fitness record when he was in charge of Manchester United. The Football Association and the Premier League said they were unaware of the tunnel incident as Dowd hat not reported it.
