MUCH LOVE, MANY THANKS, FORWARD: (Please click the first photo to scroll the uploaded set. There are more than are displayed here.) I want to thank the sisters and brothers who attended and participated in the community meeting and rally at Quinn Chapel called by concerned Black women. What a powerful message delivered by Sis. Minister Ava Muhammad! On top of that we were blessed with a diversity of voices from women in our community who are active and engaged in our collective struggle for justice. We heard leaders from all parts of Black Chicago--from the mighty West Side to the powerful and expansive South Side to even a few fresh from the surrounding burbs. Even better, we are planning to turn out en masse on Tuesday at the Cook County Criminal Court to ensure justice is served in the horrific hate crime case involving Judge Arnette Hubbard. (Call Sis. Doris Lewis at 773-474-2348) Lastly, todays event was not a beginning, a middle or an end. History is unbroken continuity. We must organize. We must build. We must train new leadership and support financially and organizationally the leaders we have that are doing the work. We must inspire new voices and a broader level of activism. A follow-up meeting (to develop organizing committees, courses of action and workable strategies) will be held this Thursday at 6 PM at PUSH, 930 E. 50th Street. (For more details call Sis. Zakiyyah Muhmmad at 312-285-1124.) Todays message is clear: When our people reach a 100% insult level then we will see a 100% change in how we operate and move--forward--as a people. No more episodic behavior. If people are not involved in engaged organizations and faith communities---identify one and get active. Help us build this model. Bring your ideas, criticisms, concerns. But do not retract. We are all in this together. ONE. Many measures of respect and much love to those of you who shared the meeting notice in your social media networks but could not personally attend. I must thank Sis Doris Lewis and Sister Zakiyaah Muhammad who agreed to host this with me. And while they were gone for more than a week during the course of this planning, they knew I work work as hard as possible to get people in the room. I must also thank Stacy Davis-Gates for her wisdom and political leadership and for helping us secure the venue. Thank you Tara Stamps, Valerie F. Leonard, Afrika Porter, Jay Travis, Cee Cee, Crystal Overton, Dorothy Leavell, Yolanda Agdabada, Serena Tally-Kirkwood, Sister Vickie Willis (for the beautiful libations), Rev. Angela Hill, Rev, James Moody, and all others that I may have missed, who gave powerful presentations that inspired us all. Big hugs to Sis. Shirley Moses from Quinn Chapels Hospitality Ministry for her support and guidance; and a big hug to Brother Bunch who provided audio/visual support. And I would be remiss if I did not acknowledge and thank the Mighty FOI for providing security throughout the program. This program was not about the quantity of people but the quality of our commitment to our struggle. Special love to our brothers--who showed up strong and in support of the sisters. Much respect to the two female elected officials who showed up, State Senator Jackie Collins and State Rep. Mary Flowers. There presence made the absence of their colleagues in City Hall and the County all the more noticeable to those who were in attendance. We love you and thank you for understanding that when the woman cries out in pain--she bout ready to give birth to something....
