MY CHINESE CONNECTION I went to China under the sponsorship of a Chinese client. He wanted me to attend and witness the 116th Canton fair in Guangzhou, China which is held twice a year highlighting primarily Chinese products with some foriegn participation, particularly Indian products. We went there via Hongkong and travelled by bus for 100 kilometers to Guangzhou. The trip lasted for 3 hours including the immigration stop between Hongkong and China boarders. During that three hours trip, we travelled the longest bridge/viaduct Ive ever seen that stretched around 60 km and I saw buildings/mass housings that stretched for more than 40 kilometer. I learned a lot in that 3 hour trip about China more than what I read and heard and saw on tv of how great China is, in 2 decades. The structures I saw from Hongkong to Guangzho alone exceeds the total number of structures that we have in the entire Philippines. How did they do that? I thought Chinese leaders were corrupt... I thought Communism is not good... I thought Chinese are second class citizens. I never thought China was that great. I realized they are now a super power with good reason. I cant help but admire the Chinese what they did to their country. I never liked China for grabbing some parts of Philippine territory. But I liked them for making their nation great and productive, despite the alleged corruptions in thier government and over population problem. I hope our leaders will have visions of making our country great. We can fight corruption all we want, but without a vision to industrialized this country, we can only do so much. In terms of improving our national infrastructure,President Ramos did very good. Erap was bad. Gloria was mediocre, but she paved more than 75 percent of Mindanao roads and spur the mining and gas and oil exploration industries. Pnoy, I dont know. I dont hear any big industrialization project under him so far. But Im happy he put Enrile to jail.
