MY FOCUS I truly believe that what gets focused upon gets done - if you have too many focuses you lose sight of your goal. Therefore my campaign platform is simple. I love my community and want to ensure that we have growth not just for today but also achieve sustainable growth to ensure a vibrant Goderich for our children and grand-children. With that in mind, my main focus for our community is job creation and sustainable employment for our residents new residents of our community. I believe the key to that growth is to make Goderich a destination. I will be a champion, as will many, to promote our town in order to attract industry and larger employers. This have been said, I believe that our future lies in making Goderich a destination and that tourism is our natural niche. In my humble opinion, we have the most beautiful community and downtown core on the lake front. We need to use that asset to our advantage. I believe we should be THE destination for travelers to West Coast of Ontario.. By attracting visitors we enhance those businesses in the hospitality industry such as restaurants, hotels and small merchants. These businesses enhance the day to day lives our residents and provide sustainable employment. Our downtown core and beachfront should be promoted within the small business community here and externally. We must use our most valuable assets to our advantage. Promotion of new and existing merchants that benefit tourism is critical. Town planning, spending and most every decision made by council must keep this focus in mind. New businesses create jobs and new residents, thereby increasing our tax base which benefits us all. My second main focus is fiscal spending. As a community that wants to maintain our existing residents and attract new residents we must have reasonable spending and property taxes. Neighboring communities are benefitting from our amenities while attracting new residents simply because their taxes are lower. A review of our town spending, the income we receive from residents, and town owned corporations is in order. We need to make the best use of every tax dollar spent. Future spending must focus on promoting our community, attracting residents, and enhancing resident lifestyles while being fiscally responsible. . We need to reinvent ourselves. Many good people and good initiatives have been brought to bear, especially in the few years. We need to continue the course – we need to make Goderich a destination and we need to be mindful of our spending and assets. We must focus upon letting the rest of the world in on our own little secret – that Goderich is a beautiful active community for all ages and that we are open for business.
