MY PRAYER walshpoems Should I walk and stumble on the road of strife and thorn, Question as I rise again the reason I was born. Creation guide my every thought and everything I do, Help me, Lord; appreciate what you have brought me to. When my feet would wander from the path I know of old, Where martyrs never wavered nor seduced the brave and bold, If thoughts are oft persuaded to lift temptations veil, Show your beacon light to me if weakness would prevail. Guide me, always teach me, and lead me wrong to right, Let your sweet star guide me and its beam be always bright. Keep me, Lord from straying and protect me from the curse, Of cowardice and compromise, of sin and things perverse. If I face corruption or attracted by the lure, That I would be much richer by a chance to cheat the poor, If temptation ever beckons when my soul is sacrificed, Remind me that when judgement fails there is a heavy price. If my pen should strike the page in anger or in strife, Should the hurt that it inflicts by as a flashing knife. Teach that I should walk with men to guide them on their way, Impart the wisdom of my years and for their souls to pray.
