Madam President..... Your State of the Economy speech yesterday - TopicsExpress

Madam President..... Your State of the Economy speech yesterday was one that seemed passionate; and I particularly admired the way you tried to simplify for the common understanding of (especially) we the lay persons by likening our current state of affairs to a bus that has been long parked and practicially out of service. You said.... “As we know, for past years, our bus has been parked, some of the parts have gotten rusty, some are unusable, and many of our people were left stranded and abandoned on the sides of the road. From opportunity to morality, our children, and in many respects ourselves, have fallen too far behind,” she stressed, adding that though they have repaired a few parts, and the engine is up and running, Liberians must keep moving forward – determined to give their best to close the gap between where we are and where we know we can be. A beautiful and true picture! Madam President..... as true as your narrative appears, it does not renew the hopes of our people that they may see any light at the end of the tunnel anytime soon because, they have heard even more or plenty of such beautiful speeches and pledges over and over. What they are yet to see.... and very disappointingly too.... are sincere, practical, robust and actions. I hold the view, Madam President, that this bus can, and will ONLY get serviced to hit the road again when you begin to walk the walk..... and not just talk the talk. To get this bus up and running again to its full potential, you will have to replace (not RESCHUFFLE) all of the current non-performing servicemen. To get this bus up and running again to its full potential, you will have to muster the will to prosecute ALL those whose unethical and suspected criminal actions and/or inaction led to the parking of this bus; most of whom are said or perceived to be very close by you. This is no time to put your neck on the chopping board for anyone. Let the LAW take its full course to serve as strong deterrents. To get this bus up and running again to its full potential, your government will have to create opportunities for ALL, not a privileged few. Empowerment of (especially) our largely youthful population must be key. Realistic reduction in the unfair income disparity in our public sector must be dealt with. Everything must be done to tackle and reduce the high rate of unemployment. Our educational, agriculture and health sectors must be robustly reformed and upgraded to meet international standards, etc....etc. Madam President, we can overcome these challenges... with your guidance and leadership, but it will take courage and will ONLY when you become the Iron Lady again. Yes, you can. May God Bless LIBERIA. Da Me.... Darius Dillon..... Say So.
