Made it another 14 miles today to the city if Leon. We are about 2/3 of the way done or we have walked over 300 miles in the last 2 1/2 weeks. This was the capital of Leon and Castille. It was originally a Roman fortress for the VII Legion. One picture I took was for my friend Rich Robles on an address that I saw as I walking into town. Tonight was are staying at the San Marcos hotel. This hotel was the one that was used in the movie, The Way with Martin Sheen. From what I could gather, this building is about 500 to 800 years old. It was originally built as a monastery and was used my monks for over 700 years. It was also used as a prison during the Spanish Civil War. One of the pictures I posted is the sword of St. James which was incorporated into the sculpture on the ceiling. I was asked what I am eating on the Camino. I usually get up and start walking and stop for a coffee con leche at the first stop. I also eat a piece or two if fruit along the way. In the evening, I usually have a pilgrims meal at one of the restaurants. A pilgrims meal is usually a first course of pasta, salad, soup or paella. The second course is chicken or thinly sliced beef, pork or beaded fish. A couple of times I had eggs. They always include French fries and roasted red peppers. This is followed by either, flan, ice cream or a pastry plus your choice of water or wine. They also include bread. The meals usually run about 10 Euros. The gars part is dinner isnt usually serves until 7 at the earliest. Andrew and his friends usually go to a store and cook something and eat in the kitchen at the Alburgue. Other people do this as well. The South Koreans made something the other night that smelled delicious.
