Magande Tips Opposition Alliance Published February 4, 2014 By Nse Udoh National Movement for Progress president Ng’andu Magande says he expects the newly formed Alliance for Opposition Political Parties to explain their objectives to the Zambian people before he could think about joining. Magande said the alliance should focus beyond just dislodging the ruling Patriotic Front from power. The former Finance Minister said the alliance needed to step up their game to ensure that Zambians connected with the idea. He said the parties should reconcile their manifestos to emphasize their commonness. “If I heard that you are opening an emerald company in the Copperbelt rural, I would be interested to know how much emerald there are and if at all they are there and how you plan to go about mining them,” he said. “I have not heard them say what their objectives are and so I expect that they should tell the Zambians that they want to more than just remove the PF from power.” Four opposition political parties recently formed an alliance dubbed Alliance for Opposition Political Parties. The four parties are MMD, ABZ, ZED and People’s Party.
