Make Jesus your friend because he is yours. The world and Christians seek love and friendship but will never effectively find it unless they are friends of Jesus, and to see him as a friend makes it easier for us to develop friendships and love one another with a different level of intimacy. Henri J. M. Nouwen said in his book "In the Name of Jesus" said; "One thing is clear to me: the temptation of power is greatest when intimacy is a threat. Much Christian leadership is exercised by people who do not know how to develop healthy, intimate relationships and have opted for power and control instead. Many Christian empire-builders have been people unable to give and receive love." People generally desire intimacy but are afraid of it and what it may entail; and unfortunately this reflects in our relationship and intimacy with our Father God, his Son, his Spirit, our marriages and with one another. To break down these barriers we need to sit with God our Father and allow him to show us things and soak in his love that is continuous, unrelenting and real. Then when we develop such intimacy with Him, oh! What affective Christians we will be.
