Makerere University Councillor, Bernard Luyiga, one of the opposition councilors that signed the petition to impeach the Kampala Lord Mayor, Elias Lukwago yesterday afternoon came up and threatened to lead a peaceful demonstration if the Supreme court judges continue delaying the ruling on Lukwago’s case. The Supreme Court on April 23, 2014 concluded the hearing of Kampala Lord Mayor, His Worship Erias Lukwago‘s appeal in which he seeks to be reinstated after he was thrown out of office on orders of the Hon. Acting Chief Justice Hon. Justice Steven Kavuma. Mr Lukwago through his lawyers asked the court to reinstate him as Lord Mayor to enable him perform his duties until his main appeal challenging his impeachment before the same court is disposed of. But Hon. Lady Justice Dr. Kisaakye, who led the panel of Justices, said the court would give its ruling on a date which would be decided later. She also said Hon. Justice Kavuma‘s orders would remain in force until the Supreme Court’s gave its verdict. Opposing Justice Steven Kavuma’s decision to restrain Lukwago from accessing his office at City Hall, Luyiga remarked that the absence of the Lord Mayor has brought to a standstill a number of KCCAs activities which require his authorization. On the impeachment of the Lord Mayor, Luyiga added that it was the Minister in charge of Kampala, Frank Tumwebaze that misled them which has damaged their reputation in the public. He further attacked fellow councillors who have continued taking allowances and salaries when they are not working saying they are betraying their electorates. It is alleged Luyiga made the comments after being forced out of a meeting called by the Executive Director, Jennifer Musisi to discuss the troubles hurting the citys development plans. “On the instigation of Hon Frank Tumwebaze, our great and powerful super minister for the Capital City and Presidency, I am excited to report that I have been forced out of the meeting that had been called by Executive Director to discuss the current woes in KCCA,” said Luyigha on his Facebook page Wednesday. “I am yet to know the offence that I have committed.” Attack While some people expressed sympathies, majority of social media enthusiasts blasted the controversial politician, saying he should resign for being an embarrassment to his voters. Joel Egesa said the offence Luyiga committed “is not knowing where you belong. One day you are in opposition, another day you are helping throw out the Lord Mayor... maybe you resign and go farming...it may suit you.” Joshua Senyange wondered: “You better tell us what you did because you cant be singled out and be ordered to leave the meeting. We are not retarded to believe that you actuallydont know what made him do that.” Apollo Kazibwe said its high time Luyiga joined hands with political comedians like Ken Lukyamuzi, Ssegirinya Muhammad, Mugatigwabata and others to form a drama group. “Youre only good at drama,” he added. Observers say as the 2016 elections come closer, the DP Makerere councillor is playing divisive politics to win back his lost constituency after siding with government to oust Lukwago. . PLIZ TELL LUYIGA SOMETHING
