Manchester United Season 2013-14 Review -Nishad Kothari Verdict: Disastrous, Unimaginable and apocalyptic. The post-Sir Alex Ferguson era was always going to be difficult for the Club but it turned out worse than anyone could have imagined. It is extremely difficult to defend the title in Premier league but to lose it in this fashion was something never thought of. The season was filled with bad tactics and players not performing upto the standards required at such a big club. Bad defending and bad midfield were the key to United’s failure this season. The worst thing for the club and the fans was that United could not win consistently at Old Trafford which used to be a fortress till last season and no team had the fear like before. Away record though was one of the best in the premier league. Many teams which had never won or had last won decades ago against Manutd at Old Trafford won and broke the record. David Moyes was sacked by the club after a series of bad results and Ryan Giggs was given a chance to be the interim-manager for the last 4 games. This is not Manchester United’s policy as he was the first one to be sacked by United since 1986. Another disastrous thing that happened was that Manutd will not play in Europe next Season for the first time since 1989-90. Maybe it is a blessing in disguise for the club as surely, the club is going through a transitional phase and needs to be rebuilt and playing a game a week will be beneficial just like Liverpool. Overall record in numbers: Played-55 Won-29 Lost-16 Draw-10 Goals scored-94 Goals conceded-57 Average Attendance-75,206 Biggest Home win-4-0 Norwich Biggest Away win-0-4 Newcastle Heaviest Home defeat -0-3 Mancity,Liverpool Heaviest Away defeat 1-4 Mancity Not good stats to look at all. League Position-7th FA Cup-3rd Round Capital One Cup-Semi Finals Uefa CL-Quarters Just one honour for the club this season was winning the FA Community Shield. Transfers IN-1)Maruoane Fellaini signed for 27.5mn from Everton. He has been disastrous this season. Was out for 3 months due to injury. Hope he gets to his Everton form next season. 2)Jaun Mata-started a bit shaky but the showed his full potential with 6 goals and 5 assists. Players that are leaving and might be leaving Old Trafford- Captain fantastic Vidic, has already agreed terms with Inter. Players such as-Ferdi,Evra,Giggs,Nani,Young,Zaha,Fletcher,Cleverly,Kagawa,Hernandez might leave the club. Youngsters like Januzaj, Wilson and Lawerence are bright future prospects for the club. Best thing that happened was Wayne Rooney signing a long-term contract with United (till 2019). Worst thing that happened was Swansea beating us in the FA Cup 3rd round and also many small teams beating us at OT. And Vidics departure is also very bad for the club. Best Player of the Season has to be David De Gea. Just 23 still regarded as one of the best keeper in the world. Made so many important and great saves. Places we need to fill in:- Defence-2 centre backs and 1 left back as besides Vidic leaving, Ferdi and Evra are getting old and might leave too. Midfield-1 CM or a holding mid like Carrick and 1 winger. A Season to forget but many things to learn from. We’ll be back stronger and better next year and be where we belong to be i.e. at the top. IMO. #GGMU
