Mandera Massacre: Al-shabaab denies Kenya’s retaliation claims over the bus raid On November 22nd 2014, a bus travelling from Mandera town to Nairobi was hijacked by a group of gunmen. 28 non-Muslim passengers were massacred after they were singled out from the rest of the passengers who were Muslims. Al-shabaab claimed the responsibility of the attack. The spokesman of Al shabab sheikh Ali Mohamud Rage claimed, “the mujahidin carried out an attack on nearby Madera town where they killed 28 non-believers. We did in revenge for what non-believer government of Kenya did to our brothers in Mombasa”. The Government of Kenya claimed that they killed the attackers and condemned Saturday’s attack and said their air forces team carried out two successful airstrikes killing more than 100 Al-shabaab militant including those ones who involved in the raid. However, Al-shabaab has denied Kenya’s retaliation claims over the bus attack. Al-shabaab operations spokesman Abdi Aziz abu Musab has denied the claim by Kenyan authorities that they killed the militants involved in the raid and killed more than 100 other militants. The spokesman counted the claim as a ‘non-existence” and mentioned that their Mujhidiin safely came back to their homes and they didn’t face any attack from Kenya forces. On the other hand, Al-shabaab spokesman stated the Kenya government meant the claim to cover up their failure to secure the security of their citizens. The link below shows Al-shabaab denial of the retaliations (youtube/watch?v=lTrfGvODpS4). An obvious question that one could ask we saw evidences of the dead bodies of people killed by Al-shabab particularly in the heinous massacre of Westgate mall and Mandera bus raid, but if the Kenya government is telling the truth where are the evidences showing that they killed more than 100 al-shabab militants? We could therefore accept Al shabab’s denial as the truth over the made by the Kenyan authority. The Kenya Defense forces (KDF) entered Jubaland state of Somalia to fight the war against al-shabab but after the capture of the port city Kismayo, they became hesitant to continue the war to liberate the rest of towns of Jubaland under the control Al-shabaab and they halted the war. This has given an opportunity to the militants to re-group themselves and get ready for their operations. Also the Al shabab who retreated from the Lower Shebelle state refuged to Jubaland and join their fellow Al-shabab of Juba. We know that last few months Jubaland authority were planning to wage war against Al-shabaab to liberate towns like Jilib, and Buale, but the plan was not successful due to the unwillingness of the KDF. They were reluctant to fight along Jubaland army. For some unknown reasons the KDF in Kuda town did not participated in the last 2 battles fought by al-shabaab against Jubaland army, which took 6 hours. Finally Al-shabaab was defeated. The town Kuda is a port city that al-shabaab uses to import their military ammunitions from other countries and as well as export charcoals to generate income. They also use to receive/send foreign fighter from other countries. Most probably the weapon (used by Al-shabaab to carry out the raid killed 28 Kenyans) were imported from the Kuda town. The Kenya Defense forces can be seen as effective forces. They could have fought along with the Darawish of Jubaland to protect their citizens. Mr RAASKAAMBOONI.
