On hearing the decision of the State Cabinet to take over Sana Konung (Royal Palace) for development into a historical monument, Titular King of Manipur Leishemba Sanajaoba has stopped taking food and remained confined inside the Palace from yesterday morning. Meanwhile, large number of men and women along with members of Sana Konung Semgat Lup has begun to guard the Royal Palace from yesterday following the State Cabinet’s decision to take over the Palace. In a follow up to the Cabinet decision, Hueiyen Lanpao visited the Royal Palace and found large number of people gathered at the premises of the Palace. The members of Sana Konung Semgat Lup were also found interacting with an American journalist. Talking to Hueiyen Lanpao, Secretary of Sana Konung Semgat Lup P Araba said that Sana Konung Semgat Lup is a body comprising 37 indigenous communities of the State. The members of the Lup have begun to guard the Royal Palace after hearing the decision of the State Cabinet. He informed that Titular King Leishemba Sanajaoba has refused to take food and step out of the Palace after learning about the Cabinet’s decision to take over the Palace. Araba further said that the State government should revoke its Cabinet decision on taking over the Royal Palace. The King is the customary head of the State and his rights cannot be deprived by the government, he noted. . A team of four gunmen who identified themselves as members of a group Apunba Lup had tried to kidnap the Pradhan of Langathel Gram Panchayat of Thoubal district, Shah Mira, wife of Md Rousan Khan, with one of them who is a girl nabbed by the locals along with a gun. She was nabbed by locals who were alerted and came out on hearing gun-shots fired by the four while trying to make their escape. The incident took place on Friday June 21 night at 11:30 pm at the Pradhan’s residence at Phundrei Makha Leikai. In relation with this incident, a meeting was held at the residence of the Pradhan presided by Zila Parishad Member, Sh Budhi Singh. The meeting has resolved that ward no 4 member M Inaobi Devi and her husband Chaoba Singh were involved in the kidnapping incident; and further resolved to ask the higher authority to initiate legal action against the member of ward no. 4 while asking the gathering not to allow outsiders to enter and settle in the village after 8 pm and in case there is urgency in doing so, information should be given to Pradhan and ward member. . Regarding the abduction of Irungbam Irabanta allegedly by NSCN (IM) last year and no clue ascertained till date, JAC against the Abduction of Irungbam Irabanta Meitei by NSCN (IM) has called a 24 hour Statewide bandh on June 26. A statement of the JAC appealed the clubs, organisations, and civil societies in the State to support the bandh. . Another person involved in the killing of truck driver Kumud Ali, who was found murdered along the bank of Imphal River at Motbung after having abducted from MM Hotel, Sekmai, has been arrested by the police yesterday. The arrested person has been identified as Md Sanayai (47) alias Jaheruddin alias Sidique, s/o Abdul Rashid of Keibung mayai Leikai, Thoubal. He was arrested by the police from Lilong while he was coming out from a Masjid after prayer. He has been remanded to police custody till June 28 after being produced before the court of JMIC Imphal West yesterday. . The PIB has said in a press statement that six militants were killed in a shoot-out in the area of Shonglung in Tamenglong district. The statement said, “Based on intelligence gathered from various sources since last one month about presence of heavily armed cadres of Number Vill Mobile Group of NSCN (K), a coordinated cordon and search operation was launched in the area of Shonglung in Tamenglong district by security forces of the Nonei Battalion under the aegis of Red Shield Division”. “On June 22 2013 at approximately 4 pm in the evening, during the search operations a group of heavily armed UG cadres ran into the Security Forces ambush parties and fired upon them”, it continued. “The Security Forces responded with calibrated fire. After an intense firefight lasting for over one hour, bodies of six unidentified UG cadres in combat fatigue were recovered by the Security Forces along with huge quantity of arms and ammunition”, the PIB statement said. “The recoveries included four AK 47 Rifles, one M 16 Rifle, one A3 Rifle, seven Magazines of AK 47, two Magazine of M-16, 47 live rounds of AK 47 and 38 live rounds of M 16”, it said. The search operation is still under progress in the area, the statement said. . Body of man believed to be about 35 years of age was found floating in Khuga river yesterday near Saidan Bridge, about 3 kms from here, police sources said, reports ourt correspondent. Sources said some villagers who were returning home last evening saw the body floating on the waters at about 2.30 pm and took it off-shore before reporting it to the police. Police said the man, about 5.5 ft in height, is wearing a grey vest, cargo half pant and black underwear. A case of unnatural death under case no. 4/2013 ccp-ps was registered by the police. The body was deposited to the district hospital mortuary here yesterday and was shifted to RIMS Imphal yesterday. RIMS will conduct the autopsy, police said. . The Students Union of Ramlal Paul Higher Secondary, Youths’ Club Keisamthong Top Leirak and All Manipur Students Parents Guardian Organization have strongly condemned the cabinet decision converting Ramlal Paul Higher Secondary into a Girls’ Higher Secondary. “We don’t want transfer to other schools, we don’t want to change our uniforms. We love Ramlal Paul Higher Secondary” said Kishan Thiyam, general secretary, Union of Ramlal Paul Higher Secondary during a press conference at the Manipur Press Club called by the joint body yesterday. Further he said that both the locals and students’ union are not opposing admission of the girl students in Ramlal Paul Higher Secondary but opposing the school being converted into an all-girls’ Higher Secondary. If the government is so much interested for the welfare for the girls’ students’ then they should improved Bengali High School, Raja Dumbhara Singh High School or other government schools. He further said the locals condemns the decision of the government and the locals will take part to save the school. . The JAC formed against the alleged kidnap and rape of a 17 year old girl from Yairipok Changamdabi Mathak Leikai alongwith several student organization of the state called a press conference at Manipur Press Club yesterday regarding the incident. The JAC along with the local MLA, Thounaojam Shyamkumar Singh met Chief Minister Okram Ibobi Singh and demanded arrest of the culprit(s) at the earliest and also submitted memorandum to the Chief Minister Okram Ibobi yesterday, said. It further said that Chief Minister assured the JAC members that within two days the culprits will be arrested. It continued that in case the government failed to take up actions and bring justice to the girl at the earliest, the JAC along with the student organizations of the state will initiate different forms of agitations. . The Scheduled Tribe Demand Committee, Manipur, Uripok Cheirap Maning has said in a press release that whether a community is a ST or not is determined by the location where the community resides and the status of the community as a ST community is determined by its topography. It continued that it is cited in the first line of the introduction of the report of Indian Government Indian Forest, 2011 that Manipur is a hilly state. Among the states of India, Himachal Pradesh, Tripura and Uttarkhand are hilly states and the government of India has declared all the communities of the hilly states as tribals, it informed while adding that the order was declared by the President of India in 1950. As per the order, communities are declared as ST, SC or OBC and even the Brahmans and Rajputs in the hilly states are declared as tribals, it said. NEC strongly recommended it by appealing to the government of India to fulfil the demand for inclusion in the ST list and it will be approved very soon, it informed. .
