Many have questioned the appearance of Akua Donkor at Senchi. Interestingly, none seems courageous enough to point out the fact that solutions to national problems are not the exclusive reserve of economic PhDs and persistent raconteurs. None (but few) of the brains that went to the beautiful resort have achieved anything meaningful outside economic letters apart from talking and loud mouthing (it comes as no surprise corruption was not mentioned). I hear the tilapia was good and toothsomely mouth-watering but please remind future organisers that dialogues get better outcomes when practical minds are fully engaged. During Clintons 1998 dialogue in North Carolina, the alluringly pragmatic president saw it prudent to engage businessmen and entrepreneurs with only few economists to fill theoretical gaps. Senchi was more of a show of egos than a deep search into the real problems confronting the nation - you can figure this from the fact that more than half of the 22-point communique are not new. Going by representations in the democratic character of the country, at least Maame Akua has earned a legitimate right to be there as the founder and leader of a duly registered political party in Ogyakurom. The next time it comes to mind to do another sechigate please remind our politricksians to make it a point to rope in solution-minded Ghanaians with track record in industry and have countless job numbers on their hands. And Ogyakuromians would be rest assured that at least something nice is about to happen.
