Many of us wrote to the BLM requesting they deny the permit for The Rise Lantern Festival, to no avail. This event was all about making an event promoter rich! Dan Hill & his Ody Events are known for traveling trashy events. This was his first flying flaming trash event, hopefully his last. Bringing 10,000 people out into the pristine & quiet desert night for a flying trash fest was irresponsible. It ended up being a destructive & dangerous event. Staff & volunteers left before the attendees, leaving no one able to control the angry mob waiting to be shuttled out of the desert. Hundreds, perhaps even thousands, ended up walking 7 miles in the cold desert night back to Vegas, some set fires to the vegetation to stay warm. Please join us & request Clark county & the BLM not permit Mr. Hill to make this an annual event as he intends. This trashy event was falsely promoted as sustainable, yet it created plenty of garbage - 20,000 trashed lanterns along with 10,000 people generated a lot of trash, some of it left along the roadside by those taking the long trek. They claimed they would chase the falling lanterns, picking them up as they landed & would stay through the night till all were retrieved - as you can see from this video taken the next day, another lie. Once again The Rise lantern Festival is deleting & blocking any negative comments on their Facebook page & has gone on the radio asking people to leave positive replies on Yelp... shameless https://facebook/video.php?v=10205105813952667
