Many times peace finds me after I have written it down since my grief or emotions are more inward. My heavy heart needs some rest tonight so I will let my fingers flow. It is 3am and rest has yet to find my eyes tonight, only the days events and memories swirling around in my mind. The flashes of walking in to see my dad on the floor with the EMTs trying to revive him to no avail to then just Friday evening; we shared kettle corn at the Relay for Life event. He came to do one of his most favorite things - hear Callie sing and afterwards he was beaming with pride. He kept telling me how much he enjoyed hearing Kelly Stanford sing too. Tucker and Harper continued asking him for money for games, mom and dad kept giving it to them to my protest. Of course all the while, he captured the evening with his trusty camera. He told my mom, come on, lets do a lap - and they did, side by side. I then recalled how our dog, Brinkley, ran out of my van on Friday afternoon and hopped into the passenger side of dads van. She loved him too and loved going to the prairie as dad called it as much as the grandkids. He thought it was so funny that he snapped a picture of her in his seat. My mind then shifts to thoughts of how young 67 is. He should have at least 20 more years here! He has graduations and weddings to attend, a house to build, more peace here on earth to find for his soul. But thats not for me to decide and I know that. Dad is now living in his mansion with more peace then I can imagine. It is even in these times, God draws us nearer to Him. I am thankful He comforts us through allowing us to share one anothers burdens. I am thankful for a loving husband who just quietly wants to be by side while I cry, for a daughter who wants to make me laugh, and a son who consoles his little cousins. Tucker told his younger cousin, Parker who was crying, Repeat after me Parker, I am a man, I am a man of God and He will protect me. His Papa would be very proud and I think those are words we can all live by.
