Maramataka recording : Below is my commitment to journal some daily learning across a lunar month about the moon and its effect on the rongoā I make. Please feel free to comment, add, critique that would be much appreciated and would add to my learning and practice. Ok whanau, I was ahead a day! so TIREA was actually yesterday! arohamai lol, The new moon was on the 21st Now, I started to write out the list of moon nights but as I was writing I had to stop, this is what I had done until I stooped ... (according to my lunar app) so heres a list of the moon nights..(from kōrero.māori.co.nz) DEC 21st - MUTUWHENUA - New Moon DEC 22nd- WHIRO - DAY 1 after New Moon DEC 23rd - TIREA - DAY 2 DEC 24th - HOATA - DAY 3 DEC 25th - ŌUE - DAY 4 DEC 26th - ŌKORO - DAY 5 DEC 27th - TAMATEA KAI ARIKI - DAY 6 DEC 28th - TAMATEA... I hope you can see why I stopped, its because this way of recording is following the Gregorian approach still! lol, I stopped and have decided to write in a different way. So... for now Ill say that we are in the waxing phase - Te Marama i whanake and for me this is optimum time for preparations. The coming full moon is the time for harvesting and storing. I will be out of internet access the next ten days but will be onboard again in the new year with some more learning and discoveries to share. I think the way I need to go is define the nights and the key elements that define them, because the lunar nights dont run the same every month, its observation that is paramount, so I will write in a reflection based way rather than a projection based way I think!! Mauri ora whanau xx
