Mark this down: If by some strange series of circumstances I ever hit a Major League home run, I will stand in the batter’s box and watch its full flight, then spend another 45 seconds or so just standing there, trying to gauge its distance. Then I will throw my arms out to the side in triumph, like I’m welcoming the world to hug me, and circle the bases with the gusto of a male figure skater presenting himself to the audience after nailing a perfect quadruple lutz. And it’s not disrespecting the game. That’s the main thing. It’s loving the game, and appreciating how incredibly fun it is to play. That’s all. And if someone on the Atlanta Braves objects, I’d suggest he mellow out for a moment and try to remember why it was he started playing baseball in the first place. ----- yes sir
