Tour route ended at the Stanton Community Center formerly the Stanton Colored School named for Secretary of War Edwin McMasters Stanton also head of Freedmans Bureau who allowed colored citizens of Annapolis take the wood from Cam Parole to build the school. At the Stanton Center Private Henry Smothers of the West River tells his story of service to the Army, his loyalty to his kin in the South County, and the abolishment of slavery in Maryland.
