I really want to know your opinion on the amount of trust JARHEADS are receiving in providing medical care. My view: the Navy is a field restricted for book smarts and analytical thinkers FOR GOOD REASON. Joking aside about being told to go pound sand, engagement in copious amounts of jackassery and rifleman school becoming co-ed, the filters in place produce some corpsmen that I would have openly and willingly trusted with my life. Not only did I not have a choice in the matter of who was assigned to my unit, I think I can only count incompetent corpsman Ive met on maybe 1 finger. Im actually terrified for the future of rescuing and preserving life in the field with the direction this is headed. Every Marine a Rifleman... Sure. I dont believe healthcare practicing is best handed to The Marine Corps. By no means is this a rip on a competency of Marines to be trained in new skills... But a corpsmen is a healthcare provider first and foremost, not a warfighting machine--probably one of the reasons they were so good at what they do is because they trained for rescue like we trained to destroy. ...thoughts?
