Matthew 8:1-4 ✿HCSB❀1 When He came down from the mountain, large crowds followed Him. 2 Right away a man with a serious skin disease came up and knelt before Him, saying, “Lord, if You are willing, You can make me clean.” 3 Reaching out His hand He touched him, saying, “I am willing; be made clean.” Immediately his disease was healed. 4 Then Jesus told him, “See that you don’t tell anyone; but go, show yourself to the priest, and offer the gift that Moses prescribed, as a testimony to them.✟ ❀This shows faith, but notice he says if You choose or if You are willing ( depending on the version.) Some people today try today try to accuse you of lacking faith & praying wrong & being responsible for the lack of healing or the lack of yes answers to prayer when we add according to Gods will, even though sinless Jesus asked only Your will, not Mine when He prayed. And the fact that God did not spare Him going to the cross does not mean His prayer was wrong or He lacked faith, but merely that Gods will said no. But here Jesus says I Am willing & He healed him. Asking Gods will is simply recognizing Gods Sovereignty & making Jesus our LORD & Master as well as Savior. It also shows submission & humility. It honors God, much more than demands or orders that some people do in prayer. It shows more faith to ask His will than to not, because faith or belief also reflect a knowledge of Who God is. You cannot believe in what you do not know. And asking His will recognizes Who He is. Demanding He do what you want, shows that you have no clue Who He is because you think you have the power to make Him do what He has no desire to do.✟
