May I rant a bit? It is good to see the cultural uprise standing up for freedom of speech and supporting the arts community to produce films according to their interest. Yes! Freedom is good indeed and we must protect it. By now you all have heard about The Interview a comedy film which plot evolves around the assassination of the North Korean leader. I agree, the movie shouldnt be taken down because of threats. Or be removed from public viewing because someone doesnt like the message. Yet there is this HUGE internal hypocrisy about the same. I suppose my sentiments are so strong because as an artist I have experienced censorship twice. Two giant American companies have stopped the showing of my work. Why? Because they didnt like the message. So, they took action against my art. First the documentary BloodMoney that has a bold Pro-Life message was removed from theater a day before its premiere. No explanation given. Shortly after I found from internal source that Planned Parenthood had contacted the theater owner and threatened to remove its support if they screened the film. Shame on Planned Parenthood for censoring the publics opinion. Then most recently Joyce Bartholomews music video What Was Your Name that I directed was rapidly gaining popularity on YouTube. It too had a beautiful message celebrating womanhood and life. Yet Google took it down because it was offensive to some. Really? Really? Have you seen some of the junk posted on YouTube? It is easy to point fingers at North Korea but if we pause to look inwardly, we will find work to do to heal our land. Now that out of my chest. Hopefully my new film The Way Forward about forgiveness will go somewhere without getting censorship in this great nation of freedom.
