Media and Culture: Ive written before about my view (along with that of many, many others with far more knowledge than I in the study of medias impact on society), about how the corporate medias news and analysis offerings threaten-and I believe have damaged-the heart beat of any democratic society: informed citizens. Of course we have a responsibility to inform ourselves. However, it has become more and more time consuming and takes a lot more digging to find journalists who (are allowed to) truly investigate stories, verify facts, expose the lies and other bad behaviors of the government and the corporate oligarchy, and/or challenge those people when they lie to an interviewers face. Its not often that someone in the corporate media actually flat out admits what the deal is. Chuck Todd of NBC apparently did just that. He recently got the Meet the Press gig; we now know for sure that Todd has no intent of challenging his weekly parade of talking point guests. If hes not a good boy, at least he believes he wont keep that pretty plush Sunday morning job. (Oh-its stories like the one here that has made The Daily Kos one of my trusted sources of information). Lewis Black said that part of the cynicism is a great feeling of disenfranchisement felt by most Americans. He said he was surprised over the last 25 years that Americans were more angry than he was. He stated correctly that like Hollywood, Washington politicians live in a bubble. Lewis Black had a backhanded stab at Chuck Todd and the traditional mainstream media news that caused Chuck Todd to tell an inconvenient truth. I have watched you and everybody else where somebody comes on, Black said. I dont know how you do it. Because I would be barking at them. Because they sit there and go glib glib [blah blah] and you sit there. Todd then interjected. We all sit there because we all know the first time we bark is the last time we do the show. ... All of a sudden, no one will come on your show.
