Meet Miss Coppola Crush! (Coppola is from Contra Costa Animal Services) Coppola is a 1 yr old, 7 lb Chihuahua with LONG LEGS. She really is like Bambi. She is vaccinated and free of parasites. She will be spayed, microchipped and have her teeth cleaned (and some baby teeth pulled) next Friday 11/7/14 and will be available for adoption the following week. She has also had multiple blood panels so we can watch her white blood cell count. Why would we need to do this? Well, Coppola is our THIRD dog in the last month who has had to be on a 14 day quarantine due to being exposed to parvo while at the shelter and having a negative antibody titer. This pretty much means that whomever owned her prior to her time in the shelter couldnt be bothered to get her a couple of $20 vaccines and she is not protected from this deadly disease. So, we have to quarantine her and make sure she has the same vaccine series that a puppy would to build up her immunity to what it should be. While these dogs certainly deserve to live and we are happy that we can save them, the long quarantine periods do take up room in our program that shouldnt have to be taken up... we would like to spread the word that if you cant or wont properly vaccinate a dog (which can mean many things) then please do not get one!!! Coppola is VERY friendly and is very sad that she has had to be cooped up in a cage for the last few weeks. She uses potty pads very well. We do not know yet if she is trained to go outside because she cannot go out while on quarantine. We are not sure if she walks on a leash yet either. She seems to be crate trained, but is very unhappy about the extended periods of time that she has been in one due to quarantine. She seems to want to play with both the cats and dogs that she has seen and she LOVES all people including kids. She cant wait to get out of quarantine and spend time with people. She did well in her crate on the car ride from the shelter. Once she is in a foster home next Saturday 11/8/14 we will know much more about her. Welcome to UOH, Coppola!
