From your computer chatinthegarden One of the most highly respected women in intercollegiate athletics today, Alfreeda Goff is in her 12th year at the Horizon League and currently serves in the role of Senior Associate Commissioner and Chief of Staff. In this capacity, she serves the League as its director of championships, Senior Woman Administrator and League governance liaison. She oversees all championships and is directly responsible for the sports of baseball, golf, mens soccer, softball, indoor track and field, and volleyball. For mens and womens basketball, she serves as tournament director with oversight for all operations. Goff came to the Horizon League in 1998 after spending four years as the Director of Athletics at Virginia State University. In 1999, Goff was named one of seven district winners of the Administrator-of-the-Year Award, presented annually by the National Association of Collegiate Womens Athletic Administrators (NACWAA). She served as an assistant track and field coach at the University of Pittsburgh in 1975 before serving as head coach for six years. Goff then joined the administrative ranks as the administrative assistant for womens athletics and departmental scheduling at Pitt. She was an Associate Athletic Director at Virginia Commonwealth University from 1987-94. Goff represented the Horizon League on the NCAA Division I Management Council from 1999-2004. She has also served on a number of other national committees, including the NCAA Division I Womens Basketball Committee and Womens Basketball Issues Committee, NCAA Woman of the Year Committee, the National Association of Collegiate Womens Athletic Administrators Executive Committee, and the NCAA Division I Track and Field Committee. In the summer of 2005, Goff was honored as the Black Coaches Associations Administrator of the Year. She is a Board member of the Minority Opportunities Athletics Association (MOAA), an affiliate organization of NACDA, and serves on NCAAs Life Work Balance Task Force and Diversity Leadership Strategic Planning Committee. Goff also was president of the National Association of Collegiate Womens Athletic Administrators in 2004-05. Goff holds a bachelors degree in health and physical education from Slippery Rock State College and a masters degree in health and physical education from Pennsylvania State University. She currently serves on the Board of Directors of the Indianapolis YWCA and is the organizations President. Goff has one son, Anton; a daughter-in-law, Wendy; and two granddaughters, Alexa and Gianna. Anton is an associate athletic director at the University of Maryland, College Park.
