Mental geography, a study into #perception of #space by humans, - TopicsExpress

Mental geography, a study into #perception of #space by humans, teaches us people tend to perceive distances as long or short not in km or in miles but by common cultural and even historical experience locally. Say, when you live right outside Moscow you take shitty #Russian электричка, a city train, cold and old and people sell all kind of garbage and beggars and invalids sing patriotic songs for spare change, and all this for an hour. And its ok. Its ok every day. An hour one way. People consider you lucky. But in #Denmark when you move out of Copenhagen the same one hour by a most modern space shuttle on rail with free wifi, aircons etc all high tech and comfy - you dont expect please your dear friends will come to visit more then once a year. God forbid, an hour? By train? Oh it is so far! :)
