Men’s competitions, Wednesday 2nd October and Saturday 5th October 2013 A small field turned out to play a Charity Medal on Wednesday and two players tied for the lead with nett 65, Allan Munro (19) and John Gibbons (9), Allan winning the sweep on count-back. They were closely followed by John D MacPherson (13) 66. All three leading players earned a shot reduction in handicap. Further scores: Keith Hunter (3) 68, also best gross score of 71; Ian Clark (5) 69; Alex H Dawson (6) and Norman D MacWilliam (4) 70. Saturday was the seventh and final monthly medal competition of the season, and the last chance for the seniors to enter a score for the Senior Millennium Trophy, awarded to the player aged 50+ returning the best four scores in the monthly medals. In division 1 of the medal competition (handicap 9 and below), vice captain Brian MacKintosh(8) and Thomas Borthwick (8) tied for the lead with nett 66, Brian winning the medal on count-back. Gary Dallas (5) and Keith Hunter (3) both returned 68, Keith again scoring the best gross with 71. In division 2 (10 to 18), Dave Alldritt (17) took the medal with an excellent 64, followed by Jack Maxwell (18) 66, John D MacPherson (12) 67 and Les Short (18) 68. The division 3 medal (19 and above) went to Stephen Myerscough (20) 66, closely followed by Andrew Brien (20) 67. Further scores: Pavel Satny (25) and Ronnie McGrath (25) 72, Rab W Fraser (19) 73. After the sixth monthly medal competition in September, John McMorran with a best four round nett aggregate of 272 and two shots clear appeared to be in an unassailable lead for the Senior Millennium Trophy. However Andrew Brien’s final 67 improved his aggregate by nine shots and saw him jump into the lead to win the trophy with a final total of 270. Final results for Senior Millennium Trophy: Andrew Brien 68 68 67 67, 270; John McMorran 69 64 69 70, 272; Keith Hunter 69 66 70 68, 273; Steve McLachlan 70 70 66 68, 274; John D MacPherson 68 71 69 67 , 275; Robbie Munro 69 69 69 69 and Ray Morris 71 67 66 72, 276. A total of 26 seniors returned the required four scores in the competition. Next weekend there are the final individual competitions of the season, when the medal winners from the monthly competitions compete for the McPherson Medal Winners’ Trophy (Men’s competition on Saturday 12th ) and the Johnstone Trophy (Ladies’ competition on Sunday 13th ). The closing competition is on the following Saturday 19th October, and is a mixed, men ladies and juniors, Texas Scramble (four per team, draw for partners) with a shotgun start at 2pm.
