Met heart surgeon this morning. By-pass surgery will probably - TopicsExpress

Met heart surgeon this morning. By-pass surgery will probably occur this coming Thursday. Surgeon very business-like, terse but willing to explain technical issues. He said all of the data suggested that the "episode" did not result in any heart damage. The woman who administered CPR got to me so quickly and restarted heart and breathing so quickly, no permanent heart damage occurred. She also saved my life (and broke at least one rib. Sore but tolerable). The impaired arteries feeding oxygenated blood to the heart muscle are approximately 70% occluded, causing the emergency right at the finish of a 1 mile track interval. Under that work demand, my heart received too little oxygen to function, started to beat ultra fast attempting to supply oxygenated blood to my brain. Failing to supply the needed blood to my brain, I passed out and hit the ground. With bypass surgery, new feeder arteries will be "installed" with the result that heart function will be considerably improved over what I could produce prior to the recent emergency. Surgeon said I could be training at a considerably higher level by next Spring. Watch out age group competitors!
