Michael Evans, a doctoral student in wildlife biology at UCONN has constructed bear hair collecting stations at Flanders and several other northwestern CT sites for a DEEP study to gain bear population estimates in the epicenter of the states growing black bear population. Due in part to forest regrowth on abandoned farmland bears have been returning to CT with resident population now estimated to be in the hundreds, primarily in northwestern CT. Come learn from Mike’s knowledge and experience, including how to best coexist with the black bears in our backyards. Cost: $12 members/$15 non-members. This program will take place on Saturday, September 28 at 10 AM.
