Mija had a good day yesterday. When mom came into Mijas room this morning, she was ready to get up. The student nurses were giving her a bed bath. In OT, Mija started with writing. She does better with a pen. She immediately wrote a word on the paper. It was hard to tell what she wrote. The therapist asked her to write her name. She was able to write it two times. She then worked on making baskets with the basketball. Mija was trying to shoot the ball into the basket instead of just placing it in. In PT, the therapist put Mija in the standing frame. Except for a few times to adjust her from leaning to the left, Mija stood in the standing frame with good posture for 30 minutes. The therapist then walked Mijas feet forward manually after she was back in the wheelchair. She was able to take two steps with her right foot on her own. Mija then moved to the omnicycle. She indicated that she wanted to pedal faster. She started at 7 and increased to 17. She rode the omnicycle for 8 minutes. It showed that she did use her right leg to push a little. In speech, the therapist gave her a choice of vanilla or chocolate pudding. She chose vanilla. Mija ate three large bites of pudding and swallowed quickly. In between the bites, she had water. She did very well opening her mouth and swallowing. She gave her a straw to sip water. Mija closed her lips around the straw and sucked the water up almost into her mouth. The therapist said that they will work on it each day. Mija was so tired after therapies that mom let her rest and skipped the TBI session. After she got up, mom gave her a shower. When Denise came, mom left to work on school paperwork. They were watching Duck Dynasty when she left. Thanks for all of the continued prayers and good vibes/karma and please keep them coming!
