Mike and Jeff take a tour: Ceramics in China 2015 Having experienced Jingdezhen with the ANU in 2011 & 2013 Mike & Jeff are taking a small group to the Pottery Workshop (PWS) in Jingdezhen. The PWS is an international ceramics centre focusing on the development and enrichment of ceramics in China and abroad. The PWS is surrounded by hundreds of small, independent craftsmen and artists. Clay producers, throwers, sculptors, mold makers, blue and white decorators, glaze shops, public kilns, brush makers, blacksmiths, and box makers. The modern facilities, bilingual staff and being located in the Porcelain Capital offers a unique experience found nowhere else in the world. Beginning in Shanghai we will travel by High Speed Rail to Hangzhou to visit the World Heritage Listed West Lake, as well as the Southern Song Dynasty Guan Kiln Museum. We then return to Shanghai in the afternoon. Hangzhou is renowned for its historic relics and natural beauty and is known as one of the most beautiful cities in China. The following day we will visit the Shanghai Museum to view its’ extensive ceramics collection. We then fly to Jingdezhen the next day, for a three week pottery and cultural experience. We will be inviting local masters to give us hands on workshops in Blue & White decoration, onglazing, Yixing Teapot making, throwing and carving; as well as visiting various factories, and local villages in the region such as Yaoli Village, Gaoling Mountain, Dragon Kiln, the Ancient Kiln Museum and San Bao. We will stay at the Jing Ma Hotel (just outside the back gate of The Sculpture Factory). Contact Mike & Jeff at highlandspottery@gmail
