Mikey Update: Today is the 25th day he is in Waukesha Memorial Hospital waiting to go to a facility where he can receive the cognitive therapy he so desperately needs. His insurance will cover 730 days in a skilled nursing facility but I cannot get him into one unless Rock County makes me or someone his guardian. When I try to communicate with anyone there, they give me the line that I have to talk to my attorney. But my attorney has, so far, not been able to get me guardianship. Next month on the 3rd, there is supposed to be a hearing. That is another two weeks from today and two months since the accident. There is absolutely no excuse for the county to deny him the care that is required in order for him to heal. I sat in his hospital room from 8 am until 7:30 pm on Monday because he asked me to be there when the lawyers come. The Guardian at litem showed up just as I was about to leave. We understood that the other lawyer that was assigned by the court was coming yesterday so I waited in his room from 8 am until 7 pm. No one showed. Waukesha Hospital is not happy with this situation. They know he needs to be somewhere where he can get thorough therapy. They made a suggestion that may be even more effective than sitting on the courthouse steps again with a sign. It wouldnt get him into a nursing facility any faster but would give the county an incentive to treat other people as humans with needs. If the patient were someone important you can bet your bottom dollar they would be moving to get proper care. Everyone should be important! I could walk out of Waukesha Hospital with him, but I would have to watch him 24/7 and I have a habit of sleeping and going to the bathroom. So he is a virtual prisoner because Rock County sees no reason to act promptly. He is improving some even without the proper care. WMH give him about 20 minutes of cognitive therapy each week day, but he needs so much more.
