Mikhail Grigoryevich Bogdanov (1956- ) is a Russian composer and teacher who studied under Tikhon Khrennikov during the late Soviet era and later worked as a faculty instructor in Novosibersk, Tashkent, Moscow, and, with the aid of a Fulbright scholarship, did a few visiting professor stints at SUNY Potsdam and Mannes School of Music in NYC. According to his Moscow Conservatory page, hes completed a great deal of scholarly work and composing for the Japanese koto. Heres a work of his featuring the rarely-heard viola damore, an instrument that Hindemith composed a few works for in the 1920s. Amongst other pieces by Bogdanov, Ive only seen scores for a few piano pieces and a sonata for cello & piano written in memory of Shostakovich.
