Mimiko: PDP elders wade into defection crisis osundefender.org/?p=196067 Akure—A leader of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in Ondo, High Chief Agboola Akintan and other leaders have met with Governor Olusegun Mimiko and business mogul, Jimoh Ibrahim in a bid to resolve the furore over the governor’s defection to the party. The over seven hour meeting was held at the country home of the elderly politician. Governor Mimiko and Ibrahim have been at ‘war’ over the control of the party since the defection. Ibrahim has been the sponsor and arrow head of those who instituted a suit an Abuja High Court to stop the National Working Committee, NWC, of the party to dissolve the State Working Committee to give way for the governor’s total take-over of the party. The suit is also to prevent the governor from hijacking the process of electing delegates and picking the candidates for the party. President Goodluck Jonathan and other NWC members have intervened in the party crisis to no avail. The disagreement between the old members and the new entrants over the control of the party structure has been the crux of the matter. The weekend meeting, which started about 2.30 p.m had in attendance former Nigerian Ambassador to Greece and Australia, Professor Olu Agbi, Chief Segun Adegoke, Mr Olusola Agbesua, the governor’s Chief of Staff, Dr Kola Ademujimi amongst other leaders. It was gathered that both gladiators spoke their minds and the octogenarian politician and others leaders pleaded with them to agree on a common ground that would be beneficial to the old and new members. Sources said while Mimiko requested that the court case, which was instituted by state EXCO led by Ebebezer Alabi and believed to have the support of Ibrahim, be withdrawn and consensus be adopted to pick candidates. Jimoh is in support of open primaries. Vanguard was also told that Jimoh insisted that the case in court would not be withdrawn until some outstanding issues are resolved.
