Mini-Bus Driver Released on Bail of N$4 000 On Saturday late afternoon, a Quantum Mini-bus and Nissan Navara collided on the B2 Narraville turn-off, claiming the life of a much cherished and well-known Walvis Bay resident, leaving the coastal community shattered with his unexpected death. According to Inspector Iikuyu from Nampol, the Mini-bus had six passengers and one baby on board. The driver, Alex Kaffer Fridolin (56), was allegedly drunk and arrested on the scene. A spokesperson for St Gabriel’s Trust Emergency Services stated that they transported six passengers to the hospital, three with medium injuries and three with only scratches and bruises. “The passenger of the bakkie was unharmed,” Iikuyu stated. According to St Gabriel’s Trust, the driver, Diamantino (Junior) Correia (24), had to be extracted from the Navara with the Jaws of Life. Aubrey Oosthuizen from the West Coast Safety Initiative confirmed that Correia was flown to Windhoek in order to be stabilised. He was then supposed to be transported to Cape Town for Surgery. Sadly though, he passed away in Windhoek on Sunday afternoon. Fridolin was held in custody in the Walvis Bay Police cells and appeared in court on Monday afternoon on charges of negligent and reckless driving as well as culpable homicide. He was granted bail for N$4 000 and the case was postponed until 3 December 2013.
