Miss Licorice went over rainbow bridge this afternoon. We decided - TopicsExpress

Miss Licorice went over rainbow bridge this afternoon. We decided not to tell most folks because we have been here so many times. Every time we thought it was time to make that call to make arrangements for her, she would have a good day. Unfortunately, there were so very few good days in the last few weeks and we knew it was time. Last night, we wrapped up her favorite baby (stuffed animal with squeaky toy) that we all called Hula Baby, she was a blue doggie in a hula skirt and Licorice loved her so much. We also wrapped up some yummies so she could have one last Christmas with her family. She loved opening gifts and sometimes when Boy would get up on Christmas morning, all of the gifts would be opened and all over the house because she got to them first. Licorice loved her baby pool, because every old lady needs to soak her feets from time to time. She loved her family and was a true asset to the neighborhood. Everyone knew and loved our Girlie Pup and she will be missed by everyone. When she was rather young, she one day started this really weird barking. When I went to investigate, I smelled a horrible smell and called the police...sure enough, Licorice had located a small meth lab in the neighborhood. In her long lifetime, she caused 22 drug busts. Pretty good for a dog who was never trained in drug sniffing. But once she did that weird bark, I would call the police. Not once was she ever wrong. Licorice was born October 22, 1999 and we adopted her from the Kansas Humane Society when she was eight weeks old and she just this last October turned 15. You will never find better dogs or cats than those available at the local humane societies and shelters. When you find some room in your heart for a pet, please visit your local shelters. You will never regret it. Licorice was a black labrador. Black animals have a smaller chance of being adopted due to stupid and outdated prejudices. We believe the black ones (cats and dogs) are good luck because we have never had a black pet that wasnt just the most perfectly wonderful pet. Please dont pass a wonderful baby by due to its color... look into their eyes and see their souls and their love, not their color. The veterinarian that came out was a Dr. Clayborn (316) 209-9251. He was very sweet and gentle and kind. He sedated her first and it was very calm and peaceful. He then transported her for cremation and will return the ashes to you or call and let you know when they can be picked up. I am including this information because I wanted others to know that now that Bradley Norris is no longer doing house calls, this veterinarian is awesome. So this is just kind of a shout out to others who have been having difficulty finding someone to help in these circumstances. Please pray for Boy, he has been having a terribly rough time in the last several months. After graduating college in September, he thought career opportunities would be readily available and that is not the case here in Wichita. We cant go home to Colorado until spring at the earliest and he is also having health issues. So losing Licorice is hitting him especially hard. Thank you to everyone who loves us and is part of our family for all your support. Our neighbors, close friends... especially our lovely ladies from Kansas Humane Society who are so very special to us, they are Foster Mommie Marilyn, Foster Mommie Marie, and of course our lovely Mommie Katherine. You all helped us so much during this rough time and your support is worth more than gold. Love Boy, Mommie, Rudy, Rembrandt, Dragon, Baloo, Bagheera, Ming-Wu, Yu-Gi-Oh, Tate and Doodle-Bug Taylor.
